Rise and Spiral: How to Wake Up Without Losing Your Mind
Rise and Spiral, Darling: The Magick of Waking Up Without the Grump
Good morning.
Or good enough morning.
You know those people who bounce out of bed ready to hug the whole universe like it's a Build-a-Bear Workshop?
My husband is the bright-eyed morning type.
For me, some mornings, waking up feels less like a fresh start and more like surviving an interdimensional crash landing.
I'm not a "good morning" person. Never have been.
I'm getting better, though.
But here's the thing:
Mornings don’t have to be a battlefield either.
You don’t have to wake up grinning.
You don’t have to wake up good.
You just have to wake up real.
And there’s a kind of magick in that.
🌞 1. Ditch the “Good Morning” Expectations
First thing’s first—stop trying to fake it.
If you don’t feel like greeting the day with glitter and jazz hands, don’t.
That's not sacred. That's just exhausting.
You don’t need to feel “good” the second you open your eyes.
You don’t need to "rise and grind" like a human motivational poster.
Let your body and mind catch up with each other.
If you wake up feeling like you fell off a cliff, that's not a personal failure. It's just Tuesday.
✨ 2. A Morning Ritual That Actually Works
If you want to move from “grump” to “grounded,” you don't need a candlelit altar or thirty-seven perfect affirmations.
You just need you, a breath, and about five sacred minutes.
🌟 The Wake-Up, Rise-Up Spell
What You Need:
A soft blanket or pillow to hug (yes, actually do it).
A glass of water or coffee.
The willingness to stretch like a cranky cat.
A morning song that doesn’t make you want to scream.
The Ritual:
Breathe First.
Before your feet hit the ground, breathe like you're sipping in survival. Big, slow, unapologetic breath.Set an Intention.
Pick word(s) for the day. That’s it.
(Examples: The universe loves to surprise and delight me. - or - I will not be contaminated, I radiate warmth. etc.)Move Something.
Arm. Neck. Toe. Doesn’t matter. Move like you’re saying “Hi” to your body, even if your body’s still grumpy.Drink Something.
Sip it like it’s the first gift you gave yourself today.Wake the Energy.
Play your song. Don’t fake happiness. Just let the music brush the dust off your spirit a little.Self-Hug.
Yes, you. Hug yourself like a survivor waking up to another day. Because that's exactly what you are. (You could high 5 yourself in the mirror, or whatever feels fun and playful for you.)
🔥 3. When You Wake Up Ready to Fight the Sun
Sometimes you wake up and the rage is already there.
Old nightmares. Heavy bones. Tired heart.
If anger hits you before your socks do, sit up and try this:
Plant your feet.
Breathe like you mean it.
Imagine the anger dissolving around you like mist.
Remind yourself:
You can carry anger without letting it carry you.
You’re not broken for waking up mad.
You’re human.
🌞 4. The “Good Morning” People Are Just Playing Their Role
If your partner or your kid is a morning sprite, bless their hearts.
Their 7 AM joy doesn’t cancel out your 7 AM skepticism.
Their sunshine isn’t stealing your sacred, slow sunrise.
Let them sparkle. Let yourself smolder.
There’s room for both.
🕯️ 5. Your Power Comes in the Pauses
The real magick?
It’s not in the rush.
It’s in the moment you sit on the edge of the bed, cradling your coffee like the last holy relic on earth.
It’s in the breath you take before scrolling.
It’s in remembering you’re allowed to arrive slowly.
Tomorrow morning:
One breath before moving.
One small word as your anchor.
One gentle movement to greet your body.
One slow sip of something sacred.
That’s enough.
It always was.
🖤 Final Blessing:
May your mornings rise gently with you.
May your day unfold with breath, not battle.
Rise and spiral, darling.
Not because you’re ready.
Because you’re here.
